[Maybe Varric was just a little behind on the times. You get that way, when you spend a good month writing the next five or so chapters to your weird alien porn series. None of which he had any plans of telling Cole.
Cole... Andraste's ass, was it really him? And... just what him was it? There were probably better ways of going about finding out, most of which involved meeting the kid in person but... with all the weird just happening around the planets, wandering about just didn't seem wise.]
Kid? Don't know if you've figured these things out but if you have... let me know. It's Varric and. Shit. It's been awhile.
[Letters never listen to him when he tries to get them to form words that have meaning that he can understand. Or, they rarely listen! He immediately opens up the alert on his tab (it's the first time he's gotten one) but it takes him a bit to process what is said. Varric! Varricvarricvarric. Excited, he responds in voice, but theres so much fizz in his chest he forgets to put the TAB near his mouth. There's a few moments of muffled speaking, but eventually— and with a soft] Oh! [— he remembers how Solas explained it to him.]
- you are here too! I want to see you. Are you near me?
[The response almost made his heart lurch. Varric hadn't realized how much he'd missed Cole until he heard his voice. At once, the concerns he'd had for the boy, every memory of the young man, came rushing back to him. Somewhere in the back of his mind, a more sinister voice reminded him that it could, just as easily, not be his Cole. That he, like Lavellan, might begrudge the sentimentality meant for another Cole.
But those Blighted thoughts could be sent to the Void for all he cared. He could work out the ramifications later. Right now, he wanted to see Cole for himself.]
Of course I'm here. Couldn't leave you and the others alone. [A pause, just long enough for a smile to crack over his lips.] Shit, kid, everyone's near everyone else here. Do you know how the districts work here? Which one are you in?
I am at Solas and an Inquisitor's house or [and he sounds a little proud of this] my house too. I am sharing a room. I have a corner!
[He pauses to think, lets the word 'district' roll over several times in his mind. It pings... something... but the association hasn't quite been made yet, so he tries for a different angle instead.]
It has many, many trees, and houses, houses in the trees. It is much nicer here than elsewhere, it doesn't make me feel like I am wrong.
I know where you are, kid. [Varric tried to ignore the faint pang in his chest. The association with Solas and Neriel, that much was fine. But he recalled another man who once called the woods home, and couldn't help but wonder what he and his spirit friend might have thought of Cole.
He shook the thoughts from his head. Anders had gone home months ago. Now wasn't the time to think about that.]
Only a corner, though. You need your own room. I'll bug Lavellan about it for you, alright? When I come to visit, that is.
i jumped the gun i'm sorry
